Located downtown, the existing one-story URM building was originally constructed in the 1920’s, and was seismically retrofit as part of the City of Los Angeles Division 88 mandatory upgrade program. In order to create the new showroom for Candiani Denim Milan, a new large skylight was added, and new openings in the existing URM walls were created. As such, an upgrade in accordance with Appendix A1 of the California Building Code was undertaken. Strategic strengthening of the URM walls, new out-of-plane anchorage, roof diaphragm strengthening was provided as part of the structural scope.
