VICTORY WELLNESS CENTER
Los Angeles, CA
2023

This renovation of a 1940's supermarket in North Hollywood created new medical office space and a wellness hub. The original curving roofline and supporting wooden bowstring trusses were retained while the 17,000 SF structure grew to 42,000 SF without expanding its footprint or overall height. This was achieved by various strategies that included cutting into the ground plan and excavating a full basement, inserting a new floor directly beneath the roof trusses, and inserting multifaceted dormer-like pop-outs.

Nous developed a structural scheme and construction sequence to enable the work to proceed without damage to the existing structure. Since the substantial renovation triggered retrofits to the existing building, Nous worked with the owner to conduct extensive as-built surveys and testing so that as much of the existing structure could be salvaged as possible.
